Telemedicine is an innovative tool for improving access to health care providers, especially patients living in rural or other low-resource settings. Provider-to-provider telemedicine sessions, which MedGlobal offers, allow doctors to get advice from colleagues with more experience or more specialized knowledge. Patient-to-provide telemedicine allows patients to talk to health care providers virtually.
MedGlobal’s Telemedicine Programs
- Bangladesh: sessions with dermatologists, pediatricians, gynecologists, and general practitioners
- Syria: sessions with surgeons, radiologists, urologists, and adult and pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) specialists
MedGlobal focuses on provider-to-provider telemedicine sessions. Local clinicians talk to MedGlobal volunteers about their patients, working collaboratively to diagnose complex cases and design treatment plans. This builds the capacity of the local clinicians, as they have the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields.
MedGlobal primarily uses video and/or audio conferencing for these sessions. However, in 2022 MedGlobal piloted a chat-based telemedicine program for physicians in Syria.
