MedGlobal Presents Senator Durbin With Lifetime Achievement Award
Sen. Durbin Attended Major Humanitarian Conference in Chicago to Be Honored for Decades of Leadership for Human Rights and Humanitarian Assistance
CHICAGO — MedGlobal, an international medical aid organization operating in countries and crisis zones around the world, presented U.S. Senator Dick Durbin with a Lifetime Achievement Award today at the group’s Chicago conference.
MedGlobal’s conference brings together leading health workers, humanitarian experts, and advocates under the theme ““Health in a Turbulent World” to share experiences and develop solutions for major health challenges in Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, Syria, and beyond. Today, MedGlobal’s president and co-founder Dr. Zaher Sahloul presented Senator Durbin with the award in recognition of his decades of outspoken leadership in support of global humanitarian assistance, diaspora and migrant communities, and human rights around the world.
“I am honored to accept this Lifetime Achievement Award from MedGlobal,” said Senator Durbin. “From refugee camps in Bangladesh to wars in Gaza, Ukraine, and Syria, MedGlobal looks out for those most defenseless and in need of help. Amid these many global conflicts, we have unfortunately also seen the current Administration dramatically cut U.S. investment in global health, undermining decades of progress in some of the poorest corners of the world. Such programs, including to help with AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, have been a priority of mine in Congress and traditionally enjoyed bipartisan support. I hope we will return to American leadership in these areas and not turn our backs on immigrants and refugees, for which this nation has always been a beacon of freedom and stability. To see, to help, and not turn away – that simple, powerful ethic has guided MedGlobal’s work to save lives around the world.”
“Senator Durbin has long demonstrated tremendous concern for the most vulnerable populations around the world, across the country and here in Illinois, providing key support for humanitarians and community networks working to save lives and make positive change,” said Dr. Sahloul. “It’s a great honor for MedGlobal to once again welcome the senator to our conference, and to present him with this lifetime achievement award in recognition of all that he has done to champion and strengthen US global humanitarian leadership.”
MedGlobal’s conference is taking place October 24-26 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, featuring a lineup of dozens of global health leaders and innovators on the cutting edge of humanitarian advocacy and response.
MedGlobal is a humanitarian nonprofit organization that provides emergency response and health programs to build resilience among vulnerable communities around the world. The organization’s health programs support victims of crisis and conflict, refugees, internally displaced persons, and marginalized communities in disaster-affected and low-resource settings.
