Support Yemen
The conflict and resulting humanitarian crisis in Yemen has caused the destruction of basic infrastructure, disruption of basic services, major displacement, and loss of lives and livelihoods. Meanwhile the rapidly increased cost of living has a significant impact on the population’s ability to obtain sufficient food and will particularly impact vulnerable populations with poor income and low purchasing power.
An estimated 7.6 million people require services to treat or prevent malnutrition, including 4.7 million who are in acute need. This includes 3.5 million people who require treatment for acute malnutrition, of whom about 2.3 million are children under age 5 and 1.2 million pregnant and lactating women (PLW) according to the Humanitarian Need Overview, 2021.
Yemen Emergency Appeal
One in 5 children with severe acute malnutrition will die without treatment; this risk increases between 9 and 10 times for those with complications.
The health care system still functions for only 51% of the population, leaving 11.6 million people in acute need for health care. Many health staff have not received salaries due to the public deficit.
