1,000 Safe Births: A Milestone for Mothers and Newborns in Bangladesh

For 17-year-old Samia Akter, the birth of her daughter marked the beginning of a new chapter. For MedGlobal’s maternity team in Bangladesh, it marked something else too: the 1,000th delivery at the facility.

Behind every safe birth is a mother, a newborn, a family, and a healthcare team working to ensure they receive the care they need before, during, and after childbirth. Reaching 1,000 deliveries represents 1,000 moments when mothers were able to access skilled maternal healthcare and give birth with trained professionals by their side.

Samia’s journey began months before she arrived to give birth.

Care Throughout Pregnancy

Samia first came to the hospital when she was 14 weeks pregnant for antenatal care. Over the following months, she returned for six antenatal care check-ups, allowing the medical team to monitor her pregnancy, provide guidance, and support her as she prepared for motherhood.

Consistent antenatal care can help healthcare professionals identify potential complications, support the health of mothers and babies, and prepare women for safer deliveries.

Then, on May 14, 2026, Samia returned to the hospital for the most important part of her journey.

She safely delivered a healthy baby girl.

Her care did not end after childbirth. Samia returned for two postnatal check-ups, providing an opportunity for the healthcare team to continue supporting both mother and newborn during the critical weeks following delivery.

The 1,000th Birth

For the team, Samia’s delivery carried an additional significance: her daughter was the 1,000th baby delivered at the facility.

The milestone represents far more than a number.

It reflects the trust families have placed in the maternity services available to their community and the dedication of the doctors, midwives, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who have supported mothers throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery.

For the team that had accompanied hundreds of women through some of the most important moments of their lives, welcoming the 1,000th baby was a moment of celebration.

Samia’s positive experience made it even more meaningful. She expressed her appreciation for the care she received, and both mother and daughter were doing well following the birth.

1,000 Births. 1,000 Reasons to Keep Going.

Every safe delivery has a story behind it.

It is a mother placing her trust in a healthcare team. It is a newborn beginning life with access to skilled care. It is a family welcoming a child with greater confidence that both mother and baby will return home safely.

For MedGlobal, reaching 1,000 deliveries in Bangladesh is both a milestone and a reminder of why accessible, high-quality maternal and newborn healthcare matters.

Samia and her daughter will always hold a special place in that journey.

But they are also part of something much bigger: 1,000 births, 1,000 families, and 1,000 moments that demonstrate what becomes possible when mothers can access the care they need.

And the work continues.
